Ziva is my dog – a lesson. From the first moments in my home, she showed an extraordinary fearfulness. Socializing her was a difficult topic that required a lot of time and commitment. Ziva was afraid of absolutely everything – during the first walks, she would lie down and freeze in place. She did not show typical puppy curiosity about the world, completely shutting down. For the first few weeks, I took her in a backpack to various places and slowly convinced her to the outside world. Despite a lot of work, Ziva never felt comfortable in public places. She still shows fear of people, and is afraid of various objects such as umbrellas, traffic lights, trash cans, etc. She is also afraid of the sounds of storms, firecrackers, breaking bottles, and other similar noises, even rain and wind.
Our first steps in sports were not easy either. I had to convince Ziva for a long time that she didn’t have to be afraid of everything around her. This caused her to have trouble focusing and working during training because she was afraid of people around her and needed time to get to know them. The first outdoor training sessions were difficult and focused on fighting for Ziva’s focus and motivation to do any work. Due to the enormous stress that accompanied Ziva, she did not eat or play. However, after some time, there was a breakthrough. Ziva liked agility and frisbee training, and the work itself motivated her. To this day, Ziva is extremely happy when offered agility or frisbee training, provided that the environmental conditions are comfortable for her.
We have had several starts in competitions, but they were associated with enormous stress for her, and usually during the second start, Ziva was unable to finish the race. During frisbee competitions, she could run away from the starting field in fear. For her sake, I gave up the starts and we trained only as a hobby, on our own property where she feels comfortable and safe.
Stress accompanies Ziva throughout her life. We try to provide her with comfort and avoid situations in which Ziva may feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much for this to happen.” is the English translation of the Polish text you provided.
Ziva shows exceptional talent and herding skills. As a puppy, she had a tendency to chase cars, bicycles, rollerbladers, and runners. I managed to eliminate this behavior. Ziva uses her enthusiasm perfectly during herding training, during which she is extremely focused on work and almost unrecognizable. She does not notice strangers and numerous imaginary threats that lurk only in her head. It is difficult to distract her from sheep after training. Ziva has often led me to sheep whose existence I had no idea about. As soon as she smells them from a distance, she simply runs after them and it is difficult to call her back. This is how we found sheep in the area : )
If a list of all problems occurring in the breed were to be created, I could certainly check them all off one by one in Ziva’s case. Although she gave me a great lesson in humility and taught me a lot about emotionalism and working with fearful dogs, it is not an experience that I would like to give to others. I believe that no dog deserves to live in such fear and stress. Therefore, due to her anxiety and enormous difficulties in everyday life, I decided that Ziva will never be bred.” is the English translation of the Polish text you provided.
